Welcome to the Naval Wiki, a professional resource from the U.S. Naval Institute.

This naval community initiative was conceived by junior naval professionals who believe there is enormous power vested in this self-sustaining, dynamic information source. The stakeholders are all those who contribute and use the Naval Wiki, and who strive to advance their careers and the naval profession.

The Naval Wiki is facilitated by the U.S. Naval Institute, where in 1873 another group of naval officers met and founded the Institute and soon after Proceedings magazine, to improve naval professionalism in the tumultuous post-Civil War era.

The Naval Wiki is initially populated with content from the Naval Institute Press professional Blue & Gold book series, and moderated by a newly constituted panel of junior naval professionals. At the core are Naval Wiki Editors who are passionately pushing the project forward.

We welcome content from the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Coast Guard communities.

We hope the Naval Wiki will:

  • Improve access to the critical information naval professionals need to keep up with the increasing demands of their jobs in environments far from traditional support and mentors.
  • Become a bedrock source containing the sum of all knowledge on naval service and operations.
  • Be a destination for crowd-sourcing the exceptional knowledge and experiences from the Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard servicemen and women who wish to share it with the community.
